Fun Fly Weekend - 28 & 29th June 2008
Although the weather didn't exactly play ball on the Saturday, the following day was a lot better, and despite a fairly stiff, but steady breeze blowing most of the day, some good flying was had by those who turned up for the day. We were pleased to welcome Simon Barr and his wife Cheryl, also Andy Fox, all from the Jersey club, who braved a bumpy sea trip to spend the weekend with us here in Guernsey.
Its always good to see the Jersey members as it gives us a good chance to catch up on what is happening the other side of the Islands, as well as being able to chat about what the two clubs are experiencing in the way of new members, model trends etc etc.
The pictures below are just a quick snapshot of the action on the Sunday, but fair to say that a pretty good time was had by those who decided to come down to the site to fly and by those who simply came to enjoy a chat and a burger.

Some of the models and their pilots early on the Sunday morning

This lovely Extra 300 belonged to Simon Barr and flew with great authority over the weekend. I don't have any flying shots unfortunately, as I always seemed to be involved in something else when Simon was in the air; but it was a really smooth flyer and Simon managed some really excellent landings despite not being used to our 'patch'.

Andy Fox brought over a number of electric powered models including a nice Cub, a very fast 'Pushy Cat' and his new F14 swing wing fighter.
The Pushy Cat was built from a free magazine plan, and despite some bad glitching on the Saturday, Andy put the little model through its paces on Sunday, having swapped out the Rx to cure the heart stopping losses of control at over 100mph!

Here's Andy looking a lot more relaxed having had a very successful flight with the F14. The swing wing feature was tried later in the day, and although it certainly made the aircraft faster, it also made it quite a bit more twitchy. Added to that was the all white colour scheme (bare foam) which made for quite an interesting few moments whilst Andy sought to tame the beast. A slightly unplanned arrival in the undergrowth didn't damage the model too much and Andy has learnt a lot in the process. I'm confident he will persevere with this unusual layout and will then have a fine model.

Andy had also brought along this nice Cub. It flew very well, as one would expect, and it was particularly interesting for me to be able to discuss with Andy the various flying traits of the Cub.I also have one which I have found a pleasure to fly, but will also 'bite' if pushed just that bit too far.
In this shot, the Cub is just into the air, looks like a steep climb out, but the model never faltered and just powered ahead into the wide blue yonder.

Rock steady, low level pass down the strip, shows this model off quite nicely. Electric power really suits this type of aircraft.

Andy lines the model up for another smooth landing
Unfortunately, all the excitement was just too much for some!
