Adrenaline
It seemed like Thomas had been waiting for an eternity for this plane to arrive, but it appears to have been worth it. Bigger than the Synergy, it is a lot smoother, but needs more power. Enter one brand spanking new YS 110. The first time we ran this motor, we knew it was going to be good. Early flights proved this, running with 15% Coolpower fuel, there was plenty of power. Then one day Thomas went to try it with a tank of 30% Coolpower. It was richened up a bit, and appeared to be running ok in the air, if a little lean, however things really started going wrong when he started prophanging. At a height of about 20 feet, the motor seized up, and the plane fell to the runway with a sickening thud. The result, and what should have been, are two completely different things. The firewall had been broken and pushed backwards, and that was it. No other damage apart from a few scratches on the cowl.
Subsequent flights on 15% fuel have improved the engines running, but like all YS's they need a lot of fuel through them before they really start to sing.
I have to day that despite not having had a go with it yet, I must say that I am very impressed with it. Much cheaper than a Synergy, to survive the fall it had with so little damage speaks volumes about it's strength. The covering on the later models is better too, as it apparently didn't stick to well on the earlier versions. It's extra size over the Synergy appears to make it smoother, although the Synergy was already very smooth. And the Adrenaline looks better. It appears to have been loosely modelled on the old Majestic design, which is one of the best-looking model planes ever!
So, it looks good, but what does it fly like? Over to Thomas, who has written this short piece:
I chose the Adrenaline to replace the synergy because it was meant to be quite a bit better, And Pete Rondel told be he could get me one really cheap. I had always intended to get a YS 110 to run In the synergy but never got round to it, so I was determined to get one for this. Even so for the first 3 weeks I ran it on my old os.91. It flew very nicely on that but there was nowhere near enough power to pull it vertical. In the trip to Jersey last year the lack of power really showed in the up lines for the aerobatic competition. When I finally got the YS in it, the performance was improved a lot. It easily pulls it vertical and some 3D is possible.
I broke the firewall quite badly when I ran out of 15% cool power and borrowed some 30%. I didn’t richen the engine enough and it cut when I was prophanging at 20’. Amazingly the only damage was the firewall and it wasn’t too much work to put a new one in. A weak later I had another dead stick and broke one side of the undercarriage, that wasn’t too bad to fix either.
Other than that in my opinion it is much better than the synergy. I haven’t flown it on a very calm day yet, so I can’t really say how good the 3D is. It seems pretty good in the wind though.
