John Ogier
John has been an avid modeller for many years, and his 'trademark' canard designs are well known both here on the island and further afield. John had one of his early canard designs (G-Man) accepted as a plan in the Modelling Plans Handbook - quite an achievement.
These days, John concentrates on improving an already successful design and honing his flying skills. His expertise with all things electric is well known within the club and he is only too happy to discuss new technology and its place in the electric flying scene.
Pictured here are some of John's more recent designs, which are as distinctive as they are successful. Here are John's descriptions and technical details of his aircraft .....
This aircraft called Sunup was the first of a series of hand launched canards I designed over the last few years. It is powered by an AXI 2826/12 motor running on 12 CP1700 cells which gives it a reasonable F3A type aerobatic performance. Controls are ailerons on the main wing and elevator on the foreplane. The span is 47 inches and length 53. Flight time is 6-7 minutes. AUW is 4lb 2ozs.

SUNFUN. This aircraft was built from the same plan as Sunup.but is an inch longer. It's designed for funflying with larger control surfaces but will also do the smoother F3A type . It uses the same power plant as Sunup. AUW is 4lb 3ozs.
SUNSET. A larger version of Sunup. Span of 53 inches and 58 long it is powered by an AXI 4120/18 running on 20 CP1700 cells which give it a better vertical and larger aerobatic performance than Sunup. AUW is 5lb 12ozs

TWIN WING Once again this is based on the sunup plan with both wings coming from the main wing and the body 4 inches longer. It has the same engine setup with an AXI 2826/14. The flight is a little slower thanthe others with the extra wing area but it makes for very smooth flying. AUW is 4lb 12ozs.

And now .. the latest addition to John's 'squadron' of canards, is his Sunray, described here by the man himself.
Sunray, the latest in the series was built in 2006 and has an
u/c.
Because our flying site is full of rabbit holes, it is held on with
rubber bands. Sunray weighs 4.5 LBS with the same power train as the
others and a 6S 2P 2400ma lithium battery (Saphion). This gives a
10 minite flight running at 35 amps max. On a 3300 5s Li poly I get
12 minutes and a slightly better performance. I am now using the
lithiums on all the models.
