GMC Fun Weekend and Aeromodel of the Year Trophy 2007

August 4th & 5th 2007

The weather gods  were certainly kind to us on this weekend, the sun shone and the winds were light just when they needed to be. All in all, one of those fantastic weekends when everything fell into place. The club Bar B Q on the Saturday, rounded off a perfect day's flying for quite a number of the members, and the Aeromodel of the Year competition saw a good entry of nine aircraft of differing types and sizes. The very worthy winner was Les Le Prevost with his Bleriot. Thanks to all those who entered the competition, pictures of all the aircraft appear elsewhere on this page.

Les' building and finishing skills are exceptional and were very evident in this aircraft. On the Sunday, when most of the public had gone and the wind had dropped to a whisper, Les treated those left at the site to a beautiful demonstration of sedate flying with the Bleriot. It is incredible to think how recent the original was taking to the skies for the first time and how far we have come in the last hundred years of flight.

The public's participation with the club trainers was very well supported with quite a number of young, and not so young pilots having a flight using the 'buddy box'. I believe we had strong interest shown by a couple of people wanting to join the club. Always good to have new blood coming into the membership and proof of the success of the 'Public' days.

Enough words, here are the pictures....

Just some of the models which members flew on the Saturday.

Tiring work this flying !!
