Guernsey Model Club

17th June 2009   Webmaster - Colin Rouillard.

Welcome to the Guernsey Model Club Website.  This is where you will be find out all about the club, from who the committee members are, to what kind of aircraft members fly.  If you have any club related questions please contact one of the committee members.

Guernsey Flyers - Reports of interference on specific channels don't appear to have been affecting the Chouet site, but if anyone does have problems, please do get in touch - Thanks..... Colin

17th June - A few shots of Chris Wilkinson's lovely Spitfire can be found on his 'Members Photos' page. A cracking model and flies like a dream!

14th June - Latest news from the Aerobatic Competition held this morning - over to Dave...

The third round of our Summer Series Aerobatic Competition was held this morning at Chouet, with much better weather conditions than we had last time.

We had two new entrants today, Steve Glass and Nick le Page, along with our 5 regular competitors.  There has also been a change in the leader board near the top.  Mick Wilkinson has stretched his lead slightly, however Ben le Prevost is now up to second place overall moving Dave Vivyan down to third place ahead of Chris Wilkinson and Andy Best.  In the battle of the newcomers, Steve edged it over Nick for 6th place.

So, hopefully the next round will be as closely fought between the 7, and maybe we will have more newcomers too.  Remember, it's not too late to enter and be in with a chance of winning, as only the best two rounds count and there are still two rounds to go.

The next round will be held on Sunday 12th July 2009 at Chouet starting at 10am. A reminder will be sent during the week leading up to it.

That's all for now, see you at the site.

Kind Regards,

Dave Wilkinson

7th June - Pictures from the recent Model Display at St Pierre Park are now on the web site - check out the specific page in the 'Modelling Open Day - 31/05/09' - it was a great day for modelling in Guernsey and a chance also to chat to other modellers from the other local clubs. Thanks again to all who took part.

11th May - Just a quick update ref the club's aerobatic competition which Dave W has been instrumental in getting up and running. Here's a few words from Dave on the latest round....

"Just a few words for you following yesterday's second round of the GMC Aerobatic Competition:

Conditions were far from ideal, with some particularly nasty cross-wind gusts to contend with, the quality of flying was on the whole good.  All 5 competitors improved on their best scores from the first round a month ago and all 5 are now much closer together, however there were no new competitors this time.

So, after 2 flights each, Mick Wilkinson emerged Victorious again, with Dave Vivyan second and Ben le Prevost third, as per round 1, but this time the scores of the top 3 were closer together.  In particular Ben, with a small light plane which did not have an abundance of power, flew remarkably well considering the conditions.  Currently the fight for 4th and 5th is between Chris Wilkinson and Andy Best, with Chris coming out on top for a second time.

Well done to all flyers.  The next round will be on Sunday 14th June, again at Chouet starting at 10am.  Hope to see the fight between the 5 continue, and maybe a few more competitors too.  Remember, that at the end of the season it is only the 2 best scores from 2 individual events that make up the final scores, so there is still a chance that somebody new can come in now and still have a chance of winning.

Hope to see a few of you on 14th June"

29th March - Last indoor session saw a good few modellers attend, plus some new flyers who we hope will join our club. Some great weather just recently has seen quite an upsurge in flying activity, and I have put a few pictures on the Flightline page of some of the new 'hardware' that has been taking to the air just recently. Long may the good weather last, after a long winter its the least we deserve :-)

A couple of shots of Steve Glass's tiny Folland Gnat EDF are on the Flightline page. Steve is better known as the 'Master of Miniature Marvels' as his tiny aircraft are superbly built and very innovative in design. This latest creation of his flies VERY fast indeed, but is very stable given its small size. Just to give you an idea of speed and agility, there's  link to a video which Martyn Dorrity shot on a recent outing of this little beauty.

25th January - Latest addition to Mick Wilkinson's ever expanding squadron of aircraft is featured on Mick's page in 'Club Member's Photos', well worth a peek at a really nice looking aircraft- SUNDOWNER 50

I've been contacted by a UK collector of vintage RC helicopters who has just set up his own web site dedicated to this aspect of the sport. Check out www.vrhc.co.uk and I'm sure you'll find it interesting even if helis aren't your thing. The site owner - Joe Richardson would be pleased to hear from any like minded enthusiast and can be contacted by email- joe@richardson092.orangehome.co.uk

PS - If you haven't already paid this years subs, now's the time to do it...

14/12/08 - Great news from the AGM.... Subscriptions for 2009 are to be held at the same level as 2008! Please pay your subs as soon as you can to Dave Wilkinson or Stuart Moseley

Senior members - £44 including BMFA membership & insurance

Junior members - £23 including BMFA membership & insurance

A full run down on the AGM will be posted in the near future. Many thanks to those who came along last week to discuss and vote on the various proposals.

1/10/08 - Just a quick update today - Congratulations to Dave Wilkinson for taking 2nd place in the CI Aerobatics Competition held just recently in Jersey. I hope to have more info in the near future.

Also, I have received comments that the Club Membership form has been difficult to download, so I have substituted a revised version should a new member wish to join our illustrious ranks!

23/9/08 - I am pleased to report that the Battle of Britain flying display that took place down in Jersey just recently was an outstanding success. The weather played ball and some awesome models were flown. Check out the gallery section on the Jersey club's website - www.jmaconline.co.uk for some stunning shots of the action.

Also just received some great shots from Dave Wilkinson who had a very exhilarating flight in a full size Extra 300L - check out the Flightline page for pix.

2/9/08 - Wow September already, seems like the summer has already deserted us given the truly awful weather we have had these past 2 weeks. Still never mind, below is a link to the page where there are some shots from the last Fun Fly day we had on the Bank Holiday.

Summer is never far away when the Bar B Q is alight !!!

Finally, just received this link to a supplier of heli spares - mainly Concept and Nexus.... www.stores.ebay.co.uk/Robs-R-C-Heli-Spares

14/05/08 - New web site for connectors, cables etc. Mention 08REF for an introductory discount on your orders. Well worth a look at this company.....http://www.rechargerc.co.uk

Some shots on the FLIGHTLINE page of the club's new Heli trainer. Huge thanks to all those involved with this project, it now adds a new dimension to our training facilities.

IMPORTANT !!!!

The Club Subs for 2009 are due now.  These can be given to Dave Wilkinson or Stuart Moseley, if you are paying by cheque please make it payable to "Guernsey Model Club".  The Fees for the year including BMFA membership are:

Senior - £44    Junior - £23    Family Junior - £18.

IMPORTANT notice to all flyers using the Chouet site -  there is to be NO overflying of the Green Waste quarry during its opening hours until further notice.

Lastly... if you are test flying a new model, or one that has been repaired, it might be wise to ask fellow pilots not to fly whilst you are test flying as it will obviously reduce the stress factor in case you have a lot of 'in flight trimming' to do, and will allow you to concentrate on your model without having to worry if there is another model in your airspace.

*** A new page on the web site***,

Flightline

for various shots of models, modellers etc etc ***

If you have any pictures of new models, or items for sale, just drop me an email - colinrou@tinyworld.co.uk or call me and I'll put them up on the site.

09/02/2006. An aircraft for Reflex XTR from John Ogier.  He has modelled one of his Canard Designs for the simulator, and after having flown it himself, Dave W says that it is one of the most realistic simulator planes he's ever used.  Download it here

Chouet Scenery for Reflex XTR...Download the original file here.  28/09/2005. New version is ready.  Looks just like flying down at the site!  If you want a copy, let Dave W know, as it's quite a large folder.  There is a night-flying heli download on another site, and he's also modified Chouet for night flying too!!  Again, if you want a copy let Dave know.
